NextGen Policy and Student Debt Crisis partner together to empower student debt borrowers to share their stories, advocate to change the broken student loan system and provide direct service to help borrowers figure out their student debt situation.
Together we focus on elevating and ensuring student borrowers have a seat at the decision making table to bring a billion dollar predatory industry out of the shadows.
Our partnership’s activation of student borrowers providing testimony at legislative public hearings, calling, tweeting and writing to their legislators has resulted in the passage of the California Student Borrower Bill of Rights – the first of its kind piece of legislation in the nation. We are both committed to providing real-time assistance to student borrowers and provide reliable information and free resources to help those with student debt get a handle on their student loans. We’ve worked together to help hundreds of Californians across the state with their student loans through in-person and online workshops, NextGen Policy’s annual Free My Future student debt summit and free online toolkits and resources.
After recognizing the need for local nonprofits to have their voices heard at the state legislative level, NextGen Policy and the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits) formed a partnership to hold advocacy workshops across the state.
Community Water Center joined a broad coalition of water advocates to push for the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund. The fund is a vital part of the Safe and Affordable Funding for Equity and Resilience (SAFER) program and promises $1.4 billion over 10 years for safe drinking water solutions for disadvantaged California communities.
With partners Miridae, Office of Kat Taylor (OKT), and Insight Garden Program, we’re building Oki Park Farm, a thriving urban garden that will promote environmental learning, produce fresh fruits and vegetables, and provide job training to individuals affected by the criminal justice system.
Stay up to date on our continued partnership work!
