NGP supports the Governor’s call for immediate actions to address the climate crisis and homelessness – actions that will foster equity and economic prosperity for all Californians.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Newsom delivered his 2022 State of the State address highlighting the state’s leadership in its COVID-19 pandemic response and also emphasizing the need to prioritize the climate emergency and to provide more affordable housing.

Statement from Arnold Sowell Jr., Executive Director NextGen Policy:

“Tonight, Governor Newsom outlined the clear need for immediate actions to address the growing climate and affordable housing crises in our state. NextGen Policy strongly supports the meaningful climate investments in our state budget that are in full alignment with the state’s climate goals, including the expansion of various clean energy initiatives. Similarly, we support and call for the expansion of tax benefits to aid families in need and intensifying the state’s efforts to combat economic inequities that contribute to the injustice of homelessness. The path toward progress requires each of us to take bold steps forward.

NextGen Policy looks forward to working with the Newsom Administration, the State Legislature, and our numerous coalition partners to ensure the state’s investments serve our most vulnerable community members. California now has the unique opportunity to truly raise the bar on progress by making long-term investments to advance a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.”

The mission of NextGen Policy and NextGen California is to fight for progressive policy change to address environmental, social, racial, gender, and economic inequities in California through justice-centered legislative advocacy, grassroots partnerships, and democratic civic engagement.
