Empowering Sacramento’s Opportunity Young Adults

Creating pathways to purpose and prosperity for justice-impacted young adults in the Sacramento region.

The Bridge to Success

The Opportunity Young Adults Career Pathway program aims to empower formerly incarcerated individuals in the Sacramento region by addressing significant employment barriers. NextGen and its partners are empowering and facilitating access to career readiness and exploration, work-based learning opportunities, college and career certifications, and comprehensive wrap around support to improve employment outcomes, reduce recidivism, and bridge labor market gaps.

Shine Grant

Shining Brighter with SMUD’s Support: For over 75 years, SMUD has been Sacramento’s community-owned, not-for-profit electric provider. As a proud Shine Grant recipient, the Opportunity Young Adult program benefits from SMUD’s investment by enabling the program to support transportation, mental health, and wrap around service needs of our participants.

A New Era of Public Sector Apprenticeships

Expanding career pathways and strengthening California’s public workforce through innovative Registered Apprenticeship Programs.

The Apprenticeship Building America, Round 2 (ABA2) project team is leading a transformative initiative to reshape the Registered Apprenticeship ecosystem within California’s local government (LGs) sector. NextGen is helping to expand and establish Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs) in the public sector, creating new career pathways and addressing workforce needs across the state. The initiative will culminate in the creation of a hub for public sector apprenticeships — offering an access point for local government employers and other stakeholders interested in public sector apprenticeships to receive support and learn about opportunities for collaboration and growth.
