Statement from NextGen’s Executive Director, Arnold Sowell Jr.:

“Today’s news that Governor Newsom will sign the Corporate Climate Accountability Bill Package into law is a historic win for our state, our nation, and our planet,” said Arnold Sowell Jr., Executive Director for NextGen California. “These bills — SB 253 and SB 261 — will help put an end to the lack of true accountability when it comes to corporate reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and assessing climate risk. Finally, communities on the front lines of the climate crisis will have the tools to quantify the ongoing damage being done by the world’s worst polluters. We can not manage the threats to our climate if we do not understand the full nature and scope of those threats – these bills unlock that box. California is once again showcasing unrivaled leadership in shaping national climate policy and advancing climate justice thanks to Governor Newsom and our State Legislature.”
