Take Action to Protect Ratepayers from Utility Abuses

Right now, Governor Newsom is considering whether to sign or veto two ratepayer protection bills: AB 1167 (Berman), the California Ratepayer Protection Act, and SB 24 (McNerney), Protecting Ratepayers from Utility Abuses. These bills will prohibit for-profit utilities from charging ratepayers for profit-seeking activities like advertisements, legislative lobbying, and advocating against local efforts to municipalize energy utility services.

As residential electric and gas rates skyrocket, AB 1167 and SB 24 present a common sense approach to regulate utility power and address energy affordability for all Californians. Both bills have already passed through the Legislature. Now, it is up to Governor Newsom to sign or veto the bills before October 12th.

Write to Governor Newsom today to urge him to sign AB 1167 and SB 24 into law and protect California ratepayers from utility abuses and high energy prices. We should not have to foot the bill for utilities’ profit-seeking activities.
