NextGen California Supports SCA 10 Which Will Enshrine Reproductive Rights into the California State Constitution

SACRAMENTO – Today, NextGen California issued a statement denouncing the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court, which eliminates the federal right to abortion, an opinion that will lead to all but total bans on abortion in many parts of our country and critically harm the future of women’s reproductive health care in America for decades to come.

Statement from NextGen California Executive Director Arnold Sowell Jr.:

“Today, in a devastating ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion in our country, ending a woman’s right to choose after almost 50 years of precedent. This decision will change the lives of women and their families for decades to come and will disproportionately impact women of color and low-income women across our nation. Now more than ever, California must strengthen our commitment to protect historically marginalized communities by providing a safe haven for abortion and reproductive services. NextGen supports SCA 10, which asks voters in November to enshrine the right to both abortion and contraception in our state constitution, and we will continue our ongoing advocacy for equity and justice and to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms we all deserve.”
