Statement from NextGen California’s Executive Director, Arnold Sowell Jr.:
“Monday, January 20th is a significant day for our nation as we collectively honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of history’s most influential and inspirational leaders, with a day of remembrance.” said Arnold Sowell Jr., Executive Director of NextGen Policy. “Throughout his life, Dr. King fought for civil rights, economic opportunity, and racial equality; tirelessly marched, along with thousands of other Americans, for fair housing and voting rights laws; and powerfully preached of his dream that one day America would live up to its constitutional quest to form a more perfect and inclusive democracy. To this day, his life and these principles still reflect the values and priorities that must guide our nation and are at the heart of our work at NextGen Policy – a bold mission to build a more equitable, prosperous, and climate resilient California for all.
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I encourage everyone to take some time to recognize, recollect, and reflect on the sacrifices and strides made by this great leader to make our country and our world a better place. In his honor and to remain true to his legacy, we must push forward, even amidst the uncertainty and challenges that may lie ahead – there is still much more work to be done. Visit NextGen Policy’s website to find volunteer opportunities happening near you and to learn about the many events taking place throughout California in honor of Dr. King.”
